I headed up to the land of Cheese in May 2024 for my brother-in-law’s wedding and WOW was I impressed by the gluten free options! Due to the wedding festivities, I did not get to try as much as I would have liked so I guess I will have to make another trip up North!
Lakefront Brewery
I tried my first ever IPA at Lakefront. I hated it, but I nearly cried because I was so excited to get to try new beers. My favorites of the day were the La Gosa Rita and the New Grist Pilsner. Unfortunately, I did not get to try the gluten free cheese curds because they had the summer food truck closed for bad weather. I am very salty about this because I hiked across town in the rain by myself to try them and it was closed (this is on me for not calling ahead).
Odd Duck
Sam and I spent our 4th wedding anniversary in Milwaukee for the his brother’s wedding so we went up a day early and found a nice place to celebrate together before the craziness of the wedding weekend started. The menu changes frequently based on what is in season but we enjoyed some delicious pimiento cheese dip, short rib, duck confit tacos, and not pictured farm carrots. They were so knowledgable about GF (and all dietary restrictions) and made our anniversary SO special.
Cafe Benelux
Cafe Benelux was located right by the Milwaukee Public Market which is such a cute area. We sat on the rooftop on a perfect Spring afternoon. Their gluten free menu was massive and I opted for the bacon havarti chicken sandwich with a side salad. It was amazing and the bun did not fall apart so that is a major win in my book.
Anytime Arepa
I love a food hall and the 3rd Street Market Hall did not disappoint. Several of the food vendors have gluten free options listed on their site but I only had eyes for arepas this day so I can’t comment on any of the other vendors. I went with the mini arepas so that I could try the chicken, beef, and cheese options. The garlic and avocado dipping sauces were incredible too!
